Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Akkountable (the "Service"), an AI-assisted bookkeeping application. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms on behalf of yourself and any business you represent.

1. The Service

Akkountable lets you upload financial documents, uses artificial intelligence to extract and categorize transactions, maintains double-entry accounting records, and produces financial reports. The Service assists with bookkeeping; it does not replace your judgment or your professional advisors.

2. Not professional advice

Akkountable is software, not an accountant, tax preparer, attorney, or financial advisor. Nothing in the Service — including AI-generated categorizations, reports, or answers from the AI Bookkeeper — is accounting, tax, legal, or investment advice. You are responsible for reviewing your books and for all filings and financial decisions. Consult a qualified professional for advice about your situation.

3. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of documents you upload, for reviewing AI-suggested classifications (the Service deliberately asks for your confirmation when it is uncertain), for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials, and for ensuring you have the right to upload the documents you provide. You must be at least 18 and use the Service only for lawful business purposes.

4. AI processing

The Service uses third-party large language model providers to read and interpret documents. Before document content is sent for AI processing, the Service attempts to detect and mask sensitive identifiers such as account numbers, card numbers, and Social Security numbers. AI output is validated and recorded, but like all AI systems it can make mistakes; reconciliation checks and your review are part of the Service's design for exactly that reason.

5. Your data

You own your data — your documents, your transactions, your books. We claim no rights over it except what is needed to operate the Service. You can export your reports and records at any time. Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Availability and changes

We work to keep the Service available and your data safe, but the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We may modify or discontinue features with reasonable notice where practical.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Akkountable and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms. On termination you may export your records; we retain data as described in the Privacy Policy and as required for legal and financial recordkeeping.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced in the Service or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
